there is a lot to enjoy in this video (which must be viewed on mtv.com):
in which,1. nicole makes those bitches take the stairs.
2. the line ‘i want to have groupies’ sounds so much like ‘i want to have boobies’ that it is impossible for me to hear the song any other way.
3. nicole gets to rise up on a platform for her, uh, solo, and she’s suddenly horribly out of breath. this is funny because anybody watching who has any sort of sense knows the whole thing was being lip-synched but because this is the power moment it has to be belted out and that has to be done live. but the platform-rising is so strange, it separates nicole -again- from the rest of the group and does nothing but to highlight the breathlessness of the ‘solo.’
4. i don’t think the dolls are quite this meta, but the ‘be careful what you wish for’ refrain… coming on the first single after ‘her name is nicole’ was aborted… which is what she wished for… i don’t know, it’s a really odd first single choice anyway, (the whole thing sounds like sophomore record material, but one of those filler tracks towards the end that you skip past to get back to the beginning), that i can’t help but wonder if there isn’t some sort of commentary there.
5. i love the jabba entrance but then they do some posing and… leave? between this and their relatively minor appearance in the acdc dance video i’m starting to wonder if their talent is best served to their own routines and not other people’s choreography. they do far better when they’re given a story to tell and there’s so story here other than we came from the rafters, oh, here’s a party. 2 months ago
