in which,
1. nicole makes those bitches take the stairs.
2. the line ‘i want to have groupies’ sounds so much like ‘i want to have boobies’ that it is impossible for me to hear the song any other way.
3. nicole gets to rise up on a platform for her, uh, solo, and she’s suddenly horribly out of breath. this is funny because anybody watching who has any sort of sense knows the whole thing was being lip-synched but because this is the power moment it has to be belted out and that has to be done live. but the platform-rising is so strange, it separates nicole -again- from the rest of the group and does nothing but to highlight the breathlessness of the ‘solo.’
4. i don’t think the dolls are quite this meta, but the ‘be careful what you wish for’ refrain… coming on the first single after ‘her name is nicole’ was aborted… which is what she wished for… i don’t know, it’s a really odd first single choice anyway, (the whole thing sounds like sophomore record material, but one of those filler tracks towards the end that you skip past to get back to the beginning), that i can’t help but wonder if there isn’t some sort of commentary there.
5. i love the jabba entrance but then they do some posing and… leave? between this and their relatively minor appearance in the acdc dance video i’m starting to wonder if their talent is best served to their own routines and not other people’s choreography. they do far better when they’re given a story to tell and there’s so story here other than we came from the rafters, oh, here’s a party.

Amazingly enough, this is a real film.

Amazingly enough, this is a real film.

Eventually I’ll probably write something really long and...

Eventually I’ll probably write something really long and involved about this season of American Idol, but for now there’s this picture, which pretty much sums up what has been, so far, an uninspiring and boring year for America’s most popular show.

Whenever I update my MySpace profile, which isn’t too often, I spend the following few days...

Whenever I update my MySpace profile, which isn’t too often, I spend the following few days fielding friend requests from the oddest of people, usually from Buffalo or the surrounding area. I add whoever I think is going to be amusing to have as a friend, regardless if I actually know them or not. Sometimes, this works but sometimes you’re stuck with shit like this:

It’s for this reason that I’m glad one of the archaic, (and baffling), features of MySpace is still intact, the direct Delete From Friends button at the bottom of every bulletin. It doesn’t seem to make any sense, a process that usually involves going into your friends’ list, individually selecting people and then deleting them can be done in a single swipe on a totally non-friends-related page.

But even with the changes MySpace has made over the past few years I think they get that sometimes you have a friend, (or “friend”), that posts ridiculous bulletins, or too many bulletins, and you can’t take it anymore and you just have to DELETE THEM RIGHT AWAY. It’s actually refreshing for a site so rooted in bad HTML and inane restrictions to get something like this right.

So, *SHaNizZL3*, it has, indeed, been real. I’ll be awaiting your request again whenever I update my profile, (which should be soon), until then, I hope you enjoy the prom. I really do.

I’ve been playing way more videogames than usual lately, which really benefits everybody when...

I’ve been playing way more videogames than usual lately, which really benefits everybody when you think about it. This is partly a result of listening to the podcasts that 1UP and EGM provide. They’re pretty good, it’s more or less like having an issue of EGM read out loud to you and commented on by whoever is in the room. The staff does a good job of running through the news stories, what they’ve been playing, etc, plus it’s far more professional than a lot of fan-made podcasts.

In any case they’ve persuaded me to join the 1UP Network, and you can check out my profile here. The website is just okay, it seems to be crafted like a social networking site for games. But unlike Facebook, (or even recent MySpace iterations), it’s not very, well, socially intuitive. That’s okay, the main focus seems to be the message board which gets points for being uncluttered, (there are simply “games,” “gear,” and “other” sections), but it can make profile navigation and editing more of a chore than needed.

Also on the videogame tip is a blog that my Xbox has been writing… about me. Using Gamertag data from the system, 360Voice is a sophisticated blog-generator that’s unique, to a point, for every user. It’s a motivation to keep playing - and getting achievements - lest your Xbox talk smack about you.

Super Mario Galaxy features some incredible music. It was awesome. To commemorate a year of awesome-movie-watching I’ve compiled a “Best Of” list that does nothing more than give you a category, a photo and I title. I guess I could write up lengthy explanations for each but, really, it speaks for itself. And if you have any questions, that’s what the comment section is for, (except, obviously, on Tumblr). I’m not a critic, I don’t see every movie. But here are a few that I did see and what I thought of them. Huzzah.

THE BEST FILM OF 2007:

The Savages

FIRST RUNNER UP:

Ratatouille

SECOND RUNNER UP:

Michael Clayton

OTHER GOOD MOVIES:
Grindhouse, Superbad, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Hairspray

BIGGEST DISAPOINTMENT:

Pirates of the Carribbean: At World’s End

SECOND BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Spider-Man 3

BEST “GUILTY PLEASURE”:

Transformers

MOST OVERRATED:

Juno

NOT AS GOOD AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN:

Eastern Promises

EXACTLY AS GOOD AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN:

Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix

MOVIES THAT ARE DIFFICULT TO JUDGE ON QUALITY BECAUSE IT VARIES SO MUCH:
(TIE!)

Halloween

I Am Legend

SUPPOSEDLY GOOD MOVIE I DON’T REALLY CARE MUCH ABOUT SEEING:

Knocked Up

A MOVIE I THOUGHT WAS AWESOME THAT NOBODY SAW:

Fay Grim

STRAIGHT UP RIDICULOUS:

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

BETTER THAN IT HAD ANY RIGHT TO BE:

Disturbia

THREE FILMS RELEASED IN 2007 THAT I REALLY WANT TO SEE BUT PROBABLY WON’T UNTIL 2008:

The Nines

Southland Tales

There Will Be Blood

BEST MOVIE OF 2006 THAT I DIDN’T SEE UNTIL 2007:

The Prestige

MOST ANTICIPATED FOR 2008:

The Dark Knight

This is what a photo looks like in Tumblr.

This is what a photo looks like in Tumblr.

what a chat post looks like

Some Guy: What do you like about Tumblr?

Kudos me.

I made myself pregnant.

SUMMARY:
I’m sort of over LiveJournal. The social aspect of it has been eclipsed by MySpace and Facebook to the point where my Friends Page is 95% celebrity gossip. LiveJournal was once a place to ruminate on what I was doing and how I felt, but why throw down an entire post when the Facebook status updater can tell all my friends at once? My recent LJ posts have been mostly about music, entries I write mostly in haste, or, I should say, in the heat of love for a new song, but nobody ever comments on them and they’re not terribly important, etc etc. I’d rather have a blog like this one that is designed for outside readers, one where I’m free to indulge in my bizarre pop culture obsessions and hope to have an actual audience.

I’m not sure this will work, I have a tendency to dive headfirst into new projects only to abandon them out of boredom- or hopelessness. I hope that doesn’t happen here. I hope that this gets read and I keep it up and it’s all interesting and whatnot. But, we’ll see. Whatever happens, I’m looking forward to it.

Look at the good I do.
